You can find salt on just about anyone's table, but the basic ingredient can be used in so many smart ways other than seasoning your food.

Do you use salt only for food? Did you know you could use salt in thousands of way?. Remember how your grandma used salt in preserving food, or in pickles? This non-metallic mineral is not just a magic ingredient for food but can be used as a key ingredient for several things in daily life.

#As a companion to toothpaste
Ever gotten yourself into a scenario where you don’t have toothpaste on hand? Just use salt!
Another pretty simple and handy hack is to actually add salt into your toothbrushing routine. It’s great to remove stains, to whiten your teeth, and even to disinfect them, because of the antibacterial properties of salt. Just don’t expect your teeth to whiten overnight, it takes some time and consistency to pull it off, but it’s well worth the wait.

#Refresh artificial flowers
Whilst we're on the topic of artificial flowers, salt can also be used to keep them clean and dust-free.
Place your flowers into a paper bag filled with some table salt and gently shake. It will remove any traces of dirt and they'll look spotless again.

#Prevent Fruits from browning
Apples, pears are notorious for oxidizing when they are cut. I always suggest in my food posts that you use a teaspoon of lemon or vinegar on chopped fruits to prevent the browning. But if you have run out of a lemon or don’t have vinegar in your kitchen. Drop the sliced fruits in lightly salted water and voila, your word is done. The fruits won’t brown up.

#Put out a fire
Fires are great to have on those cold, Winter nights, but what do you do with them when you're ready for bed?
If they're still burning brightly, throw some salt onto the flames. This will help the fire burn out more quickly, not only reducing the danger, but also the mess caused.

#Deodorise your trainers and other shoes

Trainers, canvas shoes and ballet pumps - especially when worn without socks - can get pretty pongy.
Get into the habit of deodorising them every night with by sprinkling a small amount of salt inside - it will soak up any lingering smells leaving them fresher in the morning.

#Remove Wine Stain

Blot up the wine first with paper towels. Then pour salt over the stain. The salt will drain out the wine from the fabric. Soak the top in cold water for half an hour and wash normally

#Pre-shampoo treatment for dandruff

Before you splash shampoo on your hair, sprinkle some salt onto your scalp, massage it carefully and thoroughly for at least 5 minutes, then bring in the shampoo reinforcements. It does wonders for dandruff, and also helps your hair grow healthy, long, and strong!

#Ease a sore throat

A solution of salt and water can do wonders for a sore throat. It loosens mucus, reduces swelling, and it expels bacteria and other irritants which can be the cause for your throat soreness.
Just add some table salt into a glass of water, and gargle it for between 30 seconds to a minute. You’ll be amazed at how strangely effective it is.

#Unclog the pipes

If you have a clogged drain in your home that you’re desperate to unclog, but you have no drain cleaner on hand, just try salt! We’re serious, just drop a 1/2 cup of cooking salt into the nasty hotspot. Being naturally coarse and abrasive, salt will eat through the grease that’s inhabiting your clogged pipe.

#Treat Bee Sting

Ouch? Bee stings are terrible, I have faced it and I know it. Dampen the sting area and press some salt to reduce pain and swelling. You can also use plain vinegar to treat the swelling.

#Get soft & smooth lips

Take an old toothbrush and pour some table salt onto it. Lightly brush over your lips in circular motions for a few minutes, then wash off, taking care not to ingest the salt or you could feel a little ill.
This simple beauty hack should leave you with luscious lips in no time.

#Get rid of watermarks on wooden furniture

Forgot to use your drinks mats? You may just be able to save your stained wood.
If you've got a water ring on your coffee or dining table, sprinkle some table salt directly onto it and scrub it gently with a wet sponge. It should lift right out!
