How to relax during your weekend

More than ever, rebooting our batteries over the weekend is a must: those 48 hours should be a time to tune out from all the stress and tune into things we love.

The reality of modern life is that we spend most of our weeks in a frantic race for schedules, to-do-lists, deadlines and chores. The exhausting Monday to Friday vortex takes its toll on our energy as we try to maximize our efficiency and productivity. More than ever, rebooting our batteries over the weekend is a must: those 48 hours should be a time to tune out from all the stress and tune into things we love.

#Enjoy your free time more

During the week things are very frantic and fast-paced, and it feels like there are so many things vying for your attention. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a project at work, an email, or your cell phone. We spend far too much time following technology and letting ourselves be slaves to things like social media. Make the weekend the perfect time to enjoy free time, and try to resist the lure of emails and Facebook. You will get much more out of your free time if you make the most of it and keep tech use to a minimum.

#Remove negativity

You have to remember that the weekend should be a time for relaxation and enjoyment, and you’ve got to make use of that time. Channel all your energies into positive experiences, and remove the negativity that might be plaguing your life. That means you should make sure you remove negative people from your life and avoid having negative experiences. Becoming a happy and positive person is a big part of what a fulfilling life is all about, and this is something you should work toward.

#Keep chores to a minimum

Yes, household chores need to be done, we get that, but, where possible, you need to try to keep them to a minimum at the weekend. Try to make sure you get as many of your chores and tasks done during the week as you can – that way you can spend the weekend focused on relaxation and serenity. Also, you have to make sure you avoid difficult or arduous tasks – you don’t want to spend your weekend anxious or stressed out.

#Sleep in only if you really need to.

Sleeping in for few extra hours on the weekend isn’t the best way to catch up on sleep missed during the week. A study from Harvard Medical School demonstrated that it’s impossible to catch up on sleep to improve body performance.  So this weekend, instead of dreaming about eliminating your sleep debt, start planning a regular sleeping routine for a more restful weekend and a better week ahead.

#Do spend some time planning your week. 

On Sunday night, or some other quiet time, glance at your calendar, and set goals for what you’d like to accomplish in your professional and personal life over the next 168 hours. Schedule these high-value activities in. Once Monday morning hits, you’re in a firefight. So figure out how you’ll advance your troops, rather than just hunkering down.
