According to an anonymous source "close to the case", there is a link between Kim Jong-nam and the CIA, says the Wall Street Journal, which adds that many details about their relationship remain unclear. The CIA did not wish to comment on this information.
"Several former American officials said that the half-brother, who lived outside North Korea for many years and had no known base in Pyongyang, would probably not be able to provide details on the internal functioning of this secret country," the newspaper reports. Former officials also said that Kim Jong-nam was certainly in contact with the security services of other countries, particularly China, WSJ added.
According to South Korean and American officials, the murder of Kim Jong-nam, who was critical of the ruling Pyongyang dynasty, was sponsored by North Korea, which rejects the allegation. Indonesian Siti Aisyah and Vietnamese Doan Thi Huong are accused of killing Kim Jong-nam by spraying his face with a nerve agent, VX, at Kuala Lumpur airport in February 2017. They were released in March and May respectively.
