one of the biggest interior design trends is bringing the outside indoors. An ideal way to do this is by bringing plants into your home. Not only do plants look great, but they also have amazing health benefits, and some can even aid your sleep.

#The Snake plant

The Snake plant is another very hardy plant that enjoys low light and water conditions, and as such, even those of us who aren’t very green fingered can keep this guy alive! This very stylish looking plant is also really useful as another wonderful air-purifier.


This is probably the most obvious one, as almost all sleep-related items come with a lavender scent. It has been proven to reduce anxiety and increase light sleep, not to mention it looks really lovely!

#Aloe Vera

Did you know that aloe vera plants are also great for helping you sleep? Aloe vera releases oxygen at night, that purifies the air and helps us breathe easier while we sleep. This plant in particular is great for purifying benzene and formaldehyde.


Jasmine plants have small, white flowers and are very pretty. They give off a sweet scent that is often used in its essential oil form for relaxation. Studies show that this scent is linked to reduced anxiety levels and also that it improves sleep quality. Jasmine plants are quite easy to keep as they will live well in a pot making them one of the best plants for bedroom spaces. 

#Peace Lily

Like the snake plant, peace lilies are also amazing air cleaners, as studied by NASA. The added benefit of a peace lily is that it can increase room humidity by up to 5%. Increased humidity is great for breathing while asleep. 


Gardenias are a fragrant plant from China and Japan that have also been shown to be helpful for sleep. German researchers tested hundreds of fragrances to determine their effect on GABA receptors in humans and mice. They found that chemicals in the gardenia flower could enhance the activity of the neurotransmitter GABA that helps regulate excitement in the brain, acting as strongly as some pharmaceutical sedatives.


Bromeliads are another type of tropical plant that cleans the air for you while you catch some Zs. These plants increase oxygen in the evening while absorbing carbon dioxide during the day. This means these exotic beauties are always working to keep the air clean.

#California poppy

The California poppy is a wildflower. The flower is used in its powdered form to treat nervousness and anxiety. A 2014 study in the journal European Medicines Agency found that California poppy could improve sleep quality and duration. 

#Passion Flower

This exotic and unique-looking flower can brighten your spirits with its bold color and improve your mood with its soothing scent. Passion flowers are helpful for relieving anxiety and insomnia. Researchers found in a study found that passion flowers reduce anxiety better than the common anxiety-relieving drug, Oxazepam.
